Job Purpose
To assist in the maintenance, inspection, and repair of underground electrical network systems, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of underground cables, joints, switchgear, and associated components. The Underground Network Maintenance Technician performs hands-on tasks under the guidance of the Underground Network Maintenance Engineer to support the operational reliability and safety of the underground network.


Impact:

The Underground Network Maintenance Technician ensures the smooth and continuous operation of the underground electricity network by maintaining equipment and resolving minor faults in a timely and safe manner.


Key Result Areas
1.Assist in performing regular inspections and routine maintenance on underground network equipment, including cables, joints, transformers, and switchgear
2.Help ensure that all maintenance activities are completed on time and to industry standards.
3.Support the team in diagnosing faults in underground network systems
4.Assist with repairing underground cables and components, including tasks like cable splicing, replacement of damaged sections, and testing equipment to verify proper functionality
5.Ensure safety protocols are strictly followed while working on underground systems, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety procedures
6.Help maintain a safe working environment in accordance with electrical safety standards and company policies
7.Assist in monitoring the performance of underground network systems
8.Help with testing and troubleshooting of cables, connections, and other components to ensure optimal operation
9.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance, inspections, repairs, and tests
10.Report issues identified during maintenance tasks to the Underground Network Maintenance Engineer, including detailed descriptions of faults or concerns
11.Work collaboratively with engineers and other technicians to resolve issues, improve system performance, and share knowledge
12.Assist in emergency response efforts, contributing to fault diagnosis and system restoration
13.Participate in training sessions to enhance technical skills and knowledge related to underground network systems and electrical safety practices
14.Stay informed about industry developments and new technologies related to underground network maintenance.

Person Specifications
Minimum Academic Qualifications

•Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering.
•Additional certification or training in underground network maintenance and electrical safety is an advantage.


Experience
•Minimum of 1 year of experience in underground network maintenance or electrical systems, preferably in the energy or utilities sector.
•Hands-on experience with underground cables, transformers, switchgear, and associated electrical equipment.


Competencies
•Basic understanding of underground electrical systems and components.
•Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks and assist with troubleshooting.
•Knowledge of safety procedures and electrical regulations related to underground network systems.
