Job Purpose
To monitor, control, and manage the real-time operation of the electricity grid to ensure reliable and efficient delivery of power. The System Operator ensures grid stability, coordinates system activities, and responds to system events while adhering to safety, operational, and regulatory standards.
Impact: The System Operator plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability of electricity supply by managing grid operations and responding to incidents in real-time.


Key Result Areas
1.Continuously monitor grid conditions using SCADA and other system control tools.
2.Identify potential issues and take preemptive actions to maintain grid stability.
3.Execute switching operations to control the flow of electricity across the grid.
4.Coordinate the dispatch of generation resources based on real-time demand and supply conditions.
5.Respond promptly to system disturbances, faults, or emergencies.
6.Implement corrective actions to restore grid stability and minimize disruptions.
7.Maintain constant communication with generation, transmission, and distribution teams.
8.Coordinate with field crews to execute planned or emergency work safely.
9.Ensure all operations comply with grid codes, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
10.Record and report all operational activities as required by regulations.
11.Analyze grid performance data and provide insights for system optimization.
12.Prepare and submit reports on incidents, system performance, and operational metrics.
13.Participate in training programs to stay updated on grid operations and technologies.
14.Share knowledge and best practices with colleagues and team members.

Person Specifications
Minimum Academic Qualifications

•A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering.


Experience
•Minimum of 4 years of experience in grid operations or power system management.
•Hands-on experience with SCADA and other control system tools is an advantage.


Competencies
•Strong understanding of power system operations, grid dynamics, and load management.
•Proficiency in using SCADA and other grid monitoring tools.
•Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
•Effective communication and collaboration abilities.

Working Environment
The position is based in a control room with 24/7 operations, requiring shift work and availability for emergencies. The System Operator interacts with multiple stakeholders, including field crews and other control room staff, in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
