Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks and all the operational assets associated with the business currently leased to Umeme Ltd. The company monitors Umeme Ltd and other Concessionaires in Uganda, directly distributes power in Ten (10) territories covering over 86 rural and border districts, operates a modern pole plant at Lugogo, and executes key rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

The Company is seeking to recruit qualified, competent, and highly motivated Ugandans for the role of Graduate Trainee – Legal

Number of Position(s) – 01 (One)

Reports to:  Litigation and Claims Officer

Department:  Legal

Duty Station:  Head Office

Key result areas and responsibilities:

  1. Research on regulations, laws, and legal articles to assist with the preparation of reports, case files, and legal advice
  2. Manage, organize, and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing systems
  3. Collect, examine, and organize evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation
  4. Draft and proofread correspondence and legal documents, such as pleadings and contracts
  5. Communicate with clients and witnesses to schedule meetings, interviews, and depositions
  6. Manage, organize, and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing systems
  7. Provide general administrative assistance, such as maintaining the attorney’s calendar and making travel arrangements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A bachelor of law Degree and a postgraduate diploma in legal practice.
  • 1 year of experience as a Legal assistant (preferably in a law firm or in a corporate legal department)
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional demeanor
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to work independently, manage large workloads, and keep deadlines
