UEDCL BOARD RETREATS TO REVIEW PERFORMANCE OF STRATEGIC PLAN

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company (UEDCL) board of Directors led by its Chairman Mr. Tumheirwe Francis has retreated to the North North West Service Territory to review the performance of the company’s 5-year strategic plan (2020/21-2024/25).

The UEDCL board Chairman was flanked by other directors including Ms. Elizabeth Kasenene Rumanyika, Mr. Kalunguka Kayondho and Eng. Cecilia Menya. Similary, the top and senior management team led by Mr. Paul Mwesigwa joined the UEDCL Board to undertake the strategic plan performance review. The Top management team comprises the Managing Director, Chief Engineering and Technical Services officer, Chief Finance Officer, Company Secretary, Chief logistics and Production Officer.

“We set out our strategic plan anchored on the National Development Plan III, MEMD Strategic plan, ERA Strategic plan and we’re here to review its performance bearing in mind emerging policy changes in the electricity subsector” Said Mr. Tumuheirwe Francis – UEDCL Board Chairman. He added that the Board will do an appraisal and a courtesy visit to some big customers in the NNWST. The North North Western service territory covers 8-political districts including  Kyenjojo, Kagadi, Kamwenge, Kibaale, Buliisa, Hoima, Kamwenge & Ibanda. To effectively coordinate operations in the territory, UEDCL has got ten (10) fully-fledged support offices at Kyenjojo, Kiganda, Kagadi, Karuguza, Igayaza, Kisiita, Kiryandongo, Kabwoya, Kamwenge & Biiso.

Speaking to the audience, the UEDCL MD, Mr. Mwesigwa Paul re-echoed the three business focus areas enshrined in the approved company’s strategic plan which include; business growth and sustainability, customer excellence, and operational efficiency. He also commended his team leaders from the 74 political jurisdictions for ensuring that lights are on in addition to deriving resources that have enabled the company to grow financially from 73.8 billion for the period ended June 2021 to 80.1bn for the period ending June 2022.

“Board Chairman & Board Members, I am giving the highlights of the UEDCL business performance for FY 2021/22 and the detail of the same shall be presented by members of Top Management, HR, and the PR section”, Said Mwesigwa Paul – UEDCL MD. He also emphasised that UEDCL unwavered corporate governance has enabled working teams that have birthed the results before the Board.

Hoima City, where the UEDCL board of directors are retreating is the country oil city and has also got the Kabaale International Airport, aligning as potential customers to UEDCL business. Given the growing demand for power in this territory, the Board desired to appreciate and engage some key customers on matters of service delivery  plus what needs to be solved.
