Our pole treatment process can be described in six steps. This guarantees the high quality electripole brand that has served Uganda’s electricity distribution network for the last fifty years. As a result, our clients enjoy more years from this high quality.
It all starts with a production plan. The production plan comprises of the quality and business objectives, product specifications, production methods, establishing controls, development of check lists and taking into consideration any legal, regulatory and statutory requirements.
Raw materials are then received or release to and from stores. This is a monitored and controlled process to ensure efficiency. Resources are deployed with additional controls to prevent defects (zero defects).
Seasoned poles are then verified, checked for conformity to standards and required specifications. Standards used include; US 253, EAS 322:2022, SANS 754: 1994 (Uganda Standard, East African Standard and South African Standard respectively). Quality parameters emphasised during inspection are;
i. Pole length
ii. Pole diameters at the top and bottom
iii. Physical appearance
v. Moisture content J
These parameters are used in combination and not relied on singly.
Pre-treatment tests are then conducted and a record containing measurement data is developed for verification. Moisture content and strength tests are done for all poles. Poles with moisture content less than 30% are prepared for treatment.
After inspection and verification of treatment equipment to ensure good working condition, the treatment process starts following the steps below;
• Recording of initial chemical status.
• Initial vacuuming
• Flooding cylinder with chemical
• Heating chemical to allow penetration into poles.
• Applying pressure to pump the chemical into the wood
• Final vacuuming before withdrawing product for further tests.
Finally, post treatment tests in accordance to set standards are done for chemical penetration and retention (Creosote). Successful product batches are certified by quality personnel ready for sale. Products that don’t meet the standards (non-conforming products) are rejected and or retreated with recommendation from quality personnel to ensure the right chemical penetration and retention. This is what gives the product its durability properties. Poles are then stacked after treatment awaiting final release.
